How to set up a proxy server on Steam

Why a proxy is needed for Steam

Some games on Steam are not available to residents of many countries. The system tracks your location by IP address, therefore, to purchase the game, you need to change the IP address. You can do this by using a proxy server: you will receive a new address that will be displayed when you enter Steam.

Proxies are also used to save on purchases. The same game may cost way differently depending on the region. For example, the game is cheaper in England than in your country, you can change your IP address to an England address and buy the product at a lower price.

Another feature that you can get from a proxy is the creation of multiple accounts on Steam. For each of them, you need to bind each IP address, and then the system will not understand that they all work from the same device.

Important: To prevent Steam from tracking your proxy, use reliable personal proxies. This is the only way to protect your account from blocking.

Step-by-step proxy settings on Steam

Steam does not support the use of proxy servers, so we will configure the proxy through the additional Proxifier program. It can be easily found and downloaded on the Internet.

    1. Launch Proxifier.

    2. Click the "Profile" tab and then select the "Proxy Servers" category.

    3. Click on the "Add" button.

    4. Now enter the IP address of your proxy in the "Address" line and port in the "Port" line, and select a proxy protocol. IMPORTANT: Steam will only work with the SOCKS5 protocol type.

    5. Check the box next to "Enable" and type in the password and username of the proxy server. Click the “OK” button.

    6. Close the settings, a window will appear, click "Yes".

    7. Now click the "Profile" tab and then "Proxification Rules".

    8. In the opened window, click on the "Add" button.

    9. Type in whatever name you want for the task in the "Name" field (We named it "Steam")

    10. Click on the "Browse" button and select the path to Steam on your device.

    11. At the bottom, next to the inscription "Action", select the desired proxy (which we have already configured according to the instructions above). Click the “OK” button.

We've set up a proxy for Steam! Now let's move on to the second stage: changing the country on the platform itself.

How to change country and currency on Steam

    1. After installing the proxy, log out of your account, and then log in again.

    2. At the top of the page, click on your account name and go to the "Account details" section.

    3. Click on "Update store country".

    4. Enter your data here and in the "Country" box, select the location of your proxy. If you set up an Argentina proxy, then select the same country here.

    5. Click on the "Continue" button. Done - you're logged into Steam through a proxy with a changed country and currency!
